LastPass Data Breach

by Artie Kaye

LastPass suffered another data breach in which encrypted passwords, usernames, and form fill data has been exfiltrated. These files require the user’s master password to decrypt them. However, not all of the information that was taken was encrypted, such as data regarding associated websites. Password managers are wonderful tools to improve security online. This instance has shown that having a strong password for your manager is critical. Encrypted data is useless without the key to unlock it. In light of this breach, resetting both the master password as well as all managed passwords to prevent potential unauthorized access. There may be an increase in phishing attempts in coming months, focusing on resetting passwords. Always visit the websites proper and do not click unsolicited links regarding password resets. Keep yourself safe, keep your data safe.
